Some things I Do miss about Cincinnati

I would be lying if I said I missed nothing at all. I really would love a pizza from LaRosas. No one else has pizza nearly as good. Fortunately I have Skyline here but don't go very much. Once in awhile but the one on the beach has terrible service and small servings, the one up in Countryside is just too far to drive (unless I am going up there anyway)

What I really miss are the vintage and used book stores I frequented there all the time. IN Cincinnati I had:

Dutenhoffers in Clifton
Ohio Book Store downtown
DustJacket in Mt. Lookout
1/2 Price Books in Tri-County and Kenwood
Bonnetts in Dayton

Here my choices are sorely limited. I have Haslams in St Pete (too expensive) and Blue Moon in Clearwater (not a great selection)

I miss my former employer, still keep in touch with former coworkers and the CEO.

I miss seeing some friends from the board here and a few neighbors.

I miss hills. It is very flat here.

But with that having been said I have no plans to come back anytime soon. And will never live anywhere else the rest of my life. I would miss this far more were I to move anywhere else...

One thing I do NOT miss and we have had it here for 2 days running now (which is very unusual) and that is gray, overcast and gloomy skies. I am so used to it being sunny, anymore than a day without bright sunshine and I feel depressed and want to go into hybernation mode. I could never make it the whole winter up there again where it stays gloomy weeks on end all winter. I think the last time we went a whole day without it being sunny here was 2 months ago. Something about a n [img]graemlins/sun.gif[/img] ny day kinda makes you feel better about things.
The weather can, in fact, have an impact on some peoples mood.
If you look out the window and see a gray gloomy day, you may end up having a gray gloomy day.
If you wake up and see the [img]graemlins/sun.gif[/img] then it may brighten your day right outa the gate.

I don't understand the love for LaRosa's pizza. As a kid, I remember it tasting SOOOOO good! Anymore, it just doesn't taste the same, and the product is inconsistent. Sometimes a lot of sauce...sometimes dry as a bone. Sometimes gooey with cheese. Sometimes like cardboard. Sometimes hot. Sometimes cold. Delivery always slow. Always expensive.

If I'm going to get pizza from a chain, I'd rather go to Donato's.

Funny you should mention that. I found over the years the taste/quality varied a lot by location (it shouldn't, they all get their ingredients from the same commisary on Gray Road across from Spring Grove Cemetery) But some LaRosas I didn't patronize at all due to the poor quality and others I liked best. The LaRosas at Kings Island (of all places!) over by The Beast had the best pizza of any LaRosas anywhere, it was even better than the other one at Kings Island over on the midway. Weird....

I have never been a big pizza fan. But the kids (my own & the grandkids) love LaRosa's best. But I find, since being diagnosed with diabetes, that LaRosa's pizza raises my blood sugar FAR more than other pizza, like Papa John's or Donato's or any other. And that is not a good thing for a diabetic.

The only things I would miss about Cincinnati is my kids & my grandkids. They are the ONLY reason we (hubby & me) stay here.

For the best pizza in Cincinnati skip LaTroshis.

Cassano's Pizza RULES. It's crack with mozzarella cheese on it.

Donato's is a VERY close second though.

No matter which Donato's I visit, the pizza tastes the same. I've never experienced any variation like I do at LaRosa's.

I guess I'm in the minority because LaRosa's is Cincy's #1 pizza chain. I'm thinkin' it's a bunch of west siders resistant to change.

If I were to pick a distinctly Cincinnati place (though I think by now they've expanded elsewhere), I'd pick Dewey's. Their Edgar Allen Poe...mMMMmmmmmmMmmmmm....pizza.

I'm surprised pizza made GL's list at all. I remember once we had dinner at LaRosa's and decided to split a pizza Florentine. GL spent most of the time picking the spinach off the slices. And the onions. And the garlic. And the tomatoes. And the spices. He ate crust and sauce, but left an impressive pile of toppings. At least you can get a three way or a couple of coneys when you so feel the need.
Like I always say, sometimes you just need some cheese coneys!

Not sure what I would miss the most if I moved from here as far as places I go. As I mentioned before, I dont even frequesnt any of the places I've worked so those would obviously not make the "I would miss list". I do have some family here, but many of them I rarely see or talk to.

I'd miss some of the fests, and some of the attractions (like the zoo, aquarium...) Might miss the parks (we have great parks here [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img] )

Really is tough.
